WWE NXT presented the final episode before Vengeance Day, with fans eagerly anticipating the top action on Saturday night.
Prior to the big event, Cora Jade was given the opportunity to showcase her skills against Bayley. Meanwhile, Trick Williams appeared on the show to accept a challenge from Eddy Thorpe for a strap match with minimal buildup.
Grayson Waller and Austin Theory worked on building their match against Oba Femi for the top title. However, tensions within the A-Town Down Under team were still being teased.
Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura put on a solid performance, earning a Tag Team Championship Match against Nathan Frazer and Axiom. Given the champions’ strong performance, it seems unlikely that Briggs and Inamura will emerge victorious.
Is this man the funniest man in wrestling?
While the show went smoothly for the most part, there were some issues that need addressing. Here are the three significant mistakes NXT made before Vengeance Day.
#3. Another disappointment for TNA fans who tuned in for NXT
TNA fans were excited to see JDC (formerly Fandango) return to NXT on last week’s show to challenge Lexis King for the Heritage Cup. The two competitors battled it out on the latest episode.
It was a good match with some standout moments. Lexis King emerged victorious over the TNA star, making a statement with the win.
While the result was positive for King, it slightly damaged TNA’s credibility further. WWE fans have witnessed TNA stars often taking losses without making a significant impact. Aside from Jordynne Grace and Joe Hendry, no other star has managed to make a significant splash to enhance competitiveness.
#2. Cora Jade defeated Bayley to enter the NXT Women’s Championship picture
Cora Jade and Bayley clashed just days before Vengeance Day. The Role Model was already scheduled for a Triple Threat match for the NXT Women’s Championship against Giulia and Roxanne Perez.
An interference from Perez aided Jade in securing the victory over Bayley. It was highlighted as the most significant win in Cora Jade’s career.
It was puzzling why Roxanne Perez assisted the woman who had attacked her last week in securing the win, especially considering their ongoing feud with The Role Model. Ava then appeared to include Cora in the women’s title match, adding more intrigue to the mix.
The Fatal Four-Way Match is shaping up to be intense, with fans hoping to see Giulia retain so that Roxanne and Cora can potentially move up to the main roster soon.
#1. Ridge Holland picked up another loss in WWE
Ridge Holland is considered one of the toughest competitors in WWE. He has had some impressive matches and even contended for the NXT Championship.
He challenged Tony D’Angelo for the NXT North American Championship on Tuesday, but once again fell short, despite being a formidable opponent who could have feasibly defeated The Don in the Steel Cage.
‘Babyface’ Tony D used a crowbar to secure the win, slightly tarnishing his victory. WWE should rethink its approach with Holland, who has had several standout matches on the brand and has the potential to become a dominant figure in WWE, akin to Oba Femi.
