You never know what’s going to happen on those summer nights at the Hollywood Bowl.
On Friday night, the iconic venue hosted the “Grease” sing-along screening.
The event reunited the film’s director Randal Kleiser with some of the cast. Didi Conn, who played beauty school dropout Frenchy, joined Barry Pearl, who played Doody; Michael Tucci, who played Sonny; and Kelly Ward, who played the role of Putzie, on the stage.
As they all gathered, they were greeted by another special guest.
John Travolta stunned the crowd, rocking and rolling onstage, reprising his role in the classic film as Danny Zuko, complete with a pompadour, leather jacket, t-shirt and jeans.
“L.A.? I thought you were going back to Australia!” he exclaimed to the audience, reciting one of his famous lines from the movie.
From there, he led the cast with “a-womp-bop-a-looma a-womp-bam-boom” from “We Go Together.”
The “Pulp Fiction” actor later revealed his appearance was a complete surprise to everyone, even his former castmates.
“Tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, for the first time, I surprised everyone at the ‘GREASE’ Sing-A-Long and dressed up as Danny Zuko. No one knew. Not even the cast. Thank you for a great evening,” he wrote on Instagram.
Travolta’s famous friends immediately flooded the comment section proving that “Grease” is still the word.
“Oh wish I were there!” Michelle Pfeiffer, who famously starred in “Grease 2,” wrote.
“John! I want to watch the movie right now!” wrote Rita Wilson.
Actress Teri Hatcher wrote that she was actually in the audience when the big surprise happened.
“I was there and it was so amazing of you to do that!!!” she wrote. “We all went nuts. It was so so special. Thank you! I know every word to that movie. As a child I watched it over and over in laser disc. Yes laser disc!!! Thank you for this and all your iconic performances. What a great night @hollywoodbowl.”
