Record-setting travel numbers expected for 2025 Independence Day weekend

Wednesday is expected to see the peak of road congestion for the holiday

Over 72 million people are expected to travel over the Independence Day weekend, according to travel experts from AAA. The number overtakes last year’s record-setting numbers by 2.4%.AAA says around 61 million travelers will be making their trips on the road. Meanwhile, officials with the Transportation Security Administration are planning to screen 18.5 million air travelers.Experts say preparation is key for trips over the holiday weekend.”Checking your vehicle before you hit the road, check your tire pressure, check battery,” said AAA spokesperson Aixa Diaz. “Have an emergency kit in the car with extra waters, extra snacks, a flashlight, be sure you have your phone fully charged in case there is some sort of unexpected emergency on the interstate.” Once you are prepared, experts also recommend leaving for your trip earlier, especially if you are an air traveler.”What we can expect is packed airports,” said Diaz “Some airlines have reduced routes, so that means that if there are fewer flights out there and demand is high, those airplanes are going to be packed, so don’t leave any room for error. Don’t be late to the airport.”
