City of Sacramento searches for new business to occupy waterfront property
City officials are seeking a new business to take over a waterfront space in Old Sacramento. Nearly a year after Rio City Café closed its doors, due to disagreements with former Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg on the safety of the building’s deck, the city is seeking proposals from entrepreneurs, creatives or experienced restaurateurs for 1110 Front Street.“This waterfront location is a cornerstone of Old Sacramento, and probably the most unique and high-profile opportunity in all of Northern California,” said Phil Pluckebaum, a city councilmember.Located on the newly renovated Embarcadero boardwalk and next to Joe’s Crab Shack, the vacant space will feature large outdoor dining areas after construction. The city, however, is not limiting this opportunity to restaurant uses, it will also consider entertainment or cultural-based concepts.“Combined with the 5,300-square-foot indoor area and additional seating along the Embarcadero, the property offers more than 10,000 square feet of leasable space,” city officials state. In hopes to increase tourism and boost engagement in public space, this call for business is part of the city’s Waterfront Reinvestment Program.Full details on the property and how to submit proposals are available here.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
