Samsung’s First Tri-Folding Phone: Specs Unveiled in New Report

Several reports have already indicated that Samsung will showcase its first tri-folding phone this year. A new report now claims that Samsung will showcase the device for the first time during its Galaxy Unpacked event next week and start its mass production two months from now.

Samsung’s first tri-folding phone could break cover this month

According to The Bell (via @Jukanlosreve), Samsung will showcase its first tri-folding phone at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9 and start its mass production in September. The device will reportedly go on sale sometime in the fourth quarter of this year, which is later than what other report suggested. Since it is the company’s first tri-folding device, the South Korean firm wants to check the market response by producing only a limited number of units.

During its event on July 9, Samsung plans to unveil some design aspects and key specifications of the upcoming device. It is said to feature a 10-inch OLED panel and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Its battery is said be smaller than the one (5,600mAh) in Huawei’s tri-folding phone.

Its camera setup is said to be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which means it could have a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom), and a 10MP selfie camera.

Samsung’s tri-folding phone will likely be very pricey

The tri-fold phone’s price is expected to be more than KRW 4 million (~$2,941). Moreover, it will likely be sold only in China and South Korea. This is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was also launched in China and South Korea.

The company recently shared its production plans with its key component suppliers and still hasn’t confirmed the exact production volume. Its OLED panel will reportedly be made by Samsung Display, and it will have high strength and flexibility while being extremely thin. The panel’s mass production will start in August. The device will be manufactured at Samsung’s primary smartphone manufacturing plant in Gumi.

This device launch is to highlight Samsung’s technological prowess rather than shipping it in great numbers. It wants to show that it isn’t left behind by Chinese firms like Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo that have launched thinner and lighter foldable phones with bigger batteries, faster charging, and better camera hardware.

Huawei launched its first tri-folding phone in September 2024 and sold over 400,000 units within two months of the launch. Samsung’s response will come at least one year late. And by that time, Huawei is planning to launch its second-generation tri-folding phone.
