Google brings AI Gems to Workspace apps
Now, you can use powerful AI tools called Gems right inside the side panel of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail! These helpful assistants were earlier only available in the Gemini app—but from July 2, 2025, they’re built right into your Workspace tools.
What Are Gems?
Gems are special AI helpers made to do specific tasks. You can use ready-made ones like:
- Writing Editor – helps you write better content
- Sales Pitch Creator – gives ideas for business talks
- Coding Partner – supports basic coding
- Personal Assistant – helps organize work or create summaries
You can also create your own custom Gem to do tasks your way!
Why This Is Useful
Now you don’t need to switch tabs or apps to get help. With Gems in the side panel:
- Write posts, emails, and more tailored to your audience
- Get help with sales or client-related messages
- Summarize long content or emails in your own voice
- Improve content by seeing how it sounds to different people like a CEO
How to Use Gems
- Click the spark icon “Ask Gemini” on the top-right in Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, or Drive
- Choose a ready-made Gem or create your own at gemini.google.com/gems/create
- Start working—Gems can access your files, use @ mentions, and help directly in your document
Rollout Info
- Starting July 2, 2025
- Available to all Google Workspace users who already have access to Gemini
