PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Coming all the way from Fannin County, Texas, nearly 800 miles away, is the travel ball team of the Fannin Fury. The 14U team has been playing together for some years now. The team making the long trip to Panama City Beach, which, is a big travel commitment for the players and families, but it’s a sacrifice they are all more than happy to make.
“Oh, it’s a ways out here yeah. Money, of course and whatever, that’s a big part of it, but we enjoy it.” Assistant Coach Randy Miller said.
For many who come down for summer travel ball, the heat can play a big factor for those who haven’t experienced it before. But the Fury boys from Northeast Texas say this heat, is nothing to them.
“It’s not much different, it’s humid, you sweat a lot, in Texas it’s just dry.” Jaxson Dykes said.
“Just drinking a bunch of water is key, Liquid IV, the Kona Ice stand over there, like we all get Kona Ice.” Carson Lindsey said.
“The heat in Texas is way worse to be honest. I mean, it’s pretty humid down here, but the heat in Texas is something else.” Arian Acosta said.
“It’s Texas weather. Yeah, in northeast Texas we have this, yeah we have 110 heat index every day. So, it’s really close to our weather, very, very close. So we are okay with it.” Miler said.
And of course, you can’t make a trip to the Emerald Coast without enjoying the world’s most beautiful beaches.
“Well, we’ve been to the beach. A couple places that we are staying at have pools, so the kids have been getting in the pools. Yesterday they got to spend most of the afternoon at the beach so.” Miller said.
“Going to the beach, the beach is a great thing. Down in Texas, Panama City is way better, more clear.” Lindsey said.
“We went to the beach, went fishing and the food’s good.” Dykes said.
