PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Friday is America’s birthday and next year will mark the nation’s 250th birthday!
Starting Friday NewsChannel 7 will bring you stories that showcase America in our yearlong ‘We the People’ celebration!
We’re kicking it off by going back to July 4th, 1985.
Video shows outside the WJHG studio where people held an annual Gopher Race, a fundraiser sponsored by the Lion’s Club.
Although actual gopher tortoises were once used, those have been replaced by robotic, remote-control tortoises. The race is now held in spring and no longer outside WJHG studios. The race still benefits the Lion’s Club.
