HOUSTON (July 4, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC travel to Southern California this weekend to take on MLS newcomers San Diego FC on Saturday, July 5, at Snapdragon Stadium. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. CT, and fans can watch the action live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
The match marks the first-ever meeting between the two sides and the first of two matchups scheduled for this season. San Diego is the league’s 30th franchise and is currently leading the Western Conference in their inaugural season.
Houston is coming off a 1-0 home victory over St. Louis CITY SC last weekend behind forward Ezequiel Ponce’s fifth goal of the season, which was assisted by defender Felipe Andrade for his first Dynamo assist. Andrade’s performance earned him MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors, while Ponce still leads the team in goals across all competitions with seven goals. Additionally, the match marked MLS legend Nico Lodeiro’s final match with Houston, and his decade-long MLS career that includes two MLS Cup titles and a Concacaf Champions Cup title was recognized in a prematch ceremony by the Club.
Along with Ponce leading the team in goals, defender Griffin Dorsey leads the team in distribution with six assists, followed by midfielder Jack McGlynn with five.
Notably, midfielder Jack McGlynn remains on international duty with the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT), who will face Mexico in the Final at NRG Stadium in Houston on Sunday, July 6. The midfielder has appeared in every match of the competition so far. The red, white and blue won their group after victories over Trinidad and Tobago (5-0), Saudi Arabia (1-0) and Haiti (2-1), while advancing to the Final after victories over Costa Rica and Guatemala in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals. McGlynn recorded an assist versus Trinidad and Tobago, while scoring another goal from outside of the box versus Turkey in a pre-tournament friendly on June 7.
San Diego currently sits at the top of the Western Conference with 39 points and a 12-5-3 (WLD) record. The team has won its last four matches, most recently earning a 3-2 comeback victory over FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium, with goals from Anders Dreyer, Hirving “Chucky” Lozano and Tomás Ángel. Dreyer leads the team’s attack with nine goals and 14 assists in 20 appearances. Saturday’s match also marks San Diego’s first home match since May 31, when the club hosted Austin FC.
