Many families in Gaza have been standing in line since early Sunday morning, waiting for their child to receive a polio vaccination. This campaign aims to prevent the resurgence of the virus, which has been linked to unsanitary conditions.
According to Sam Rose, a spokesperson for UNRWA, over 200 teams are currently administering the vaccine in 25 locations across Gaza. The teams are going from tent to tent to ensure that all children under 10 years old in Gaza receive the vaccine.
The joint effort by UNRWA, the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Palestinian Ministry of Health will continue in the following days, as long as the temporary ceasefire between Hamas and Israeli forces holds.
More updates will be provided soon.
