Tragedy at Apalachee High School: Gunman kills 4 and injures at least 9 in Georgia shooting

Georgia shooter previously interviewed over online threats to commit school shooting, FBI says

The FBI revealed that the shooter responsible for the tragic incident at a Georgia high school had previously posted threats online about carrying out a school shooting.

In a joint statement, the FBI’s Atlanta field office and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that an anonymous tip was received in May 2023 regarding online threats related to a potential school shooting.

These threats were accompanied by images of firearms, according to the FBI.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the threats originated in Georgia, leading to the involvement of the Sheriff’s Office.

“The Jackson County Sheriffs’ Office identified a possible suspect, a 13-year-old boy, and conducted an interview with him and his father,” the FBI stated. “Although the father acknowledged having hunting guns at home, he assured that the boy did not have unsupervised access to them.”

The boy denied being the source of the threats, and local schools were advised to keep an eye on him. However, no arrest was made at that time.

On the recent tragic incident at Apalachee High School, authorities identified Colt Gray, 14, as the shooter responsible for the deaths of two students and two teachers. Gray surrendered and is expected to face murder charges as an adult.

“Following the recent Joint Statement, the 13-year-old previously mentioned is the same individual in custody in connection to the Apalachee High School shootings,” the FBI revealed.

According to an FBI source, the family originally lived in Jackson County but has since relocated to Barrow County, Georgia.
