Over a month at their new location, and it’s not just making food Tikka Spilce has to worry about, but their safety.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Tikka Spice is open and ready to serve Albuquerque. A recent break-in has the food truck rethinking its safety standards.
Tikka Spice has been at their new location on Adams Street near Lomas for over a month, and it is not just making food they have to worry about, but their safety.
“Even with these two locks, it was locked, it was locked on the inside; they were able to shake it open, and there’s a big panel right here, so they were able to open up the window,” said Michael Marquez-Thompson, the director of operations for Tikka Spice.
He says the camera outside the food truck caught a man trying to break in and another keeping guard last Sunday.
“They opened up the truck and noticed that there was a camera inside. So they put a mask, they put a face covering on, went inside, turned the camera, and at that point, we can’t see what’s going on,” said Marquez-Thompson.
They took the food truck’s phone, two tablets, and the $60 in their cash box. On top of that, $500 worth of product the food truck had to throw out after the burglars unplugged main equipment.
“Luckily, there’s not enough space for them to take this brand-new pizza oven that we got, any of the grill stuff, a fry, or anything like that. But if someone were to take this, you can easily sell it on the streets for a good amount of money,” said Marquez-Thompson.
The two men came back five days later.
“Clearly, the second time they came here, they know that there’s cameras here, and all they decided to do is just try to change the camera and break in again. Yeah, let’s spend $4,000 or $5,000 in the best security system. But is that really going to stop them from doing it?” said Marquez-Thompson.
