Rigby’s Renegade Axe business has brought its owner’s family closer together and provides a unique way for community members to bond.
When her sister’s family built an ax throwing trailer and saw the Burly area already “saturated” with other ax throwing opportunities, Samantha Wescott, along with her husband Kyle, decided to take on the family business in Rigby.
“I think it can be really scary,it’s not like we bought a multimillion-dollar business,” Wescott said. “My husband works a full-time job already. He works at EIRMC (Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center). I’m a busy mom to four kids. I also work a part-time job on the side as well, so we’re already both incredibly busy.”
Though taking on the business was intimidating, the Wescotts have seen it benefit their family as a unit.
“It’s been so good for our family to have something that my kids all love, my husband and I love. We’re excited about it,” Wescott said. “It’s something we can all do together as a family. And it’s just been really fun for our kids to see that it’s good to take risks. It’s good to start something new.”
Wescott said the ax throwing trailer is something her family has loved renting out to youth groups, and they look forward to their future set up at August’s Rigby Fair and other local festivities.
“We want to be able to provide this for people,” Wescott said. “We have lights on it, we can do nights, evenings, our hours are pretty flexible. … We don’t rent it out or book it on Sundays. I just think Sundays are a family day.”
