Pickup Truck Crashes into Colorado’s Folsom Field, Causing Damage

A man was arrested after being involved in several hit-and-run crashes, almost hitting a person and eventually crashing his pickup truck through a gate and driving it onto the football stadium at the University of Colorado, causing damage to the grass, officials said.

The Colorado Buffaloes, coached by former NFL player Deion Sanders, won’t play a home game again until they face Baylor on Sept. 21. The field will be ready, university officials assured.

Witnesses reported a blue pickup truck hitting at least two vehicles at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday and driving on, hitting trees and signs as well. The driver almost hit one of the witnesses who tried to stop him, according to Boulder police. The driver then proceeded to hit at least one more vehicle.

Officers tried to stop the driver, but he managed to escape. He was seen again near the football stadium minutes later, but even university police couldn’t stop him. He crashed through a gate and drove onto Folsom Field, eventually surrendering to police after a short negotiation.

One of the rear tires of his truck was missing, and the wheel was stuck in the grass at the 40-yard-line, as shown in online images.

The university is assessing the damage to the field and two entrance gates at the stadium, but it won’t affect the Buffaloes’ next home game, according to Steve Hurlbert from Colorado’s athletics department.

A 48-year-old man was taken into custody on charges including criminal attempted vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, three counts of leaving the scene of a crash after causing damage, and criminal mischief involving damages of $100,000 to $150,000, police reported.
