During a special election edition of “60 Minutes,” Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was questioned about his trustworthiness when it comes to telling the truth. CBS News’ Bill Whitaker highlighted criticisms of Walz for embellishing or outright lying about his military record and travels to Asia in the 1980s.
Whitaker also brought up Walz’s admission during the vice presidential debate that he was not in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square massacre, prompting the governor to refer to himself as a “knucklehead.”
When asked by Whitaker if misrepresenting the truth is more than just being a knucklehead, Walz defended himself by stating that while he may make mistakes, he is not a pathological liar like Donald Trump.
Walz affirmed that he can be trusted to tell the truth, highlighting that those closest to him know he keeps his word.
Walz has been under scrutiny since being chosen as Kamala Harris’ running mate, with media outlets questioning his honesty on various issues. Despite the criticism, Walz remains steadfast in his conviction to admit when he misspeaks and correct his mistakes.
