Donald Trump, the former president, has responded twice to President Joe Biden’s comment about Trump supporters being “garbage,” with the most recent response coming late at night.
During a virtual campaign rally for Kamala Harris, Biden was asked about a comedian’s derogatory remark towards Puerto Rico made during a Trump rally. Biden responded by saying, “The only garbage I see out there is [Trump] supporters.”

According to the Federal Elections Commission, Trump received 74.2 million votes in the 2020 election, which means the current president called almost half of the country’s voters “garbage.”
Trump wasted no time in tweeting his response.
“While I am campaigning with positive solutions for America, Kamala Harris is spreading hate,” Trump tweeted. “Now, Joe Biden is calling our supporters ‘garbage.’ You cannot lead America if you do not love the American people. It’s clear that Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are unfit to be President of the United States.

“I am proud to lead the biggest, broadest, and most important political coalition in American history. We are welcoming historic numbers of Latinos, African Americans, Asian Americans, and citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. It is my desire to be the President of all the people.”
When Trump was informed of Biden’s “garbage” comment by Florida Senator Marco Rubio at a rally, he was shocked. Trump compared it to Hillary Clinton’s “deplorable” remarks in 2016 and said, “Garbage, I think, is worse. But he doesn’t know. You have to please forgive him.”

The White House attempted to clarify Biden’s statement by releasing the following tweet:
“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it,” Biden tweeted. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don’t reflect who we are as a nation.”
Early voting has begun across the nation, with Election Day set for Nov. 5.
