Sennheiser Introduces Versatile Wireless Clip-On Mics That Transform into Tabletop Microphones

Sennheiser has introduced a new portable wireless microphone kit that is designed to be an affordable and versatile all-in-one solution for content creators and videographers. The Profile Wireless system includes a wireless receiver that can be connected to various devices, a pair of compact clip-on transmitters with built-in microphones that can also be used as handheld or tabletop mics, and a mobile charger.

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless kit is set to ship in late 2024 or early 2025, but is available for pre-order today at a price of $299. This makes it more affordable than similar kits such as the $349 DJI Mic 2 kit and the $499 Shure MoveMic system. The Rode Wireless Go II kit, priced at $299, does not include a portable charging solution.

The Profile Wireless’ charging bar features a 2,000mAh battery.

The Profile Wireless microphones are similar in size to the DJI Mic 2 and can be attached to clothing using a clip on the back or a magnet, providing more flexibility in placement. For those needing higher-quality or discreet lav mics, the transmitter includes a lockable 3.5mm connector for external mic attachment.

The microphones are pre-paired to a two-channel receiver and communicate over a 2.4GHz wireless signal with a range of over 800 feet in clear line of sight. The battery life for the mics and receiver is approximately seven hours, with the option to recharge using the included 2,000mAh battery-equipped charging bar.

Each microphone includes 16GB of storage with a “Backup Recording Mode” for automatic local recording if the wireless connection is lost, as well as a “Safety Channel Mode” to prevent clipping or distortion of audio.

The included wireless receiver connects to laptops, mobile devices, or cameras with a cable or charging port adapter.

To connect the receiver to other devices for audio capture, USB-C or Lightning adapters, USB-C cables, or audio cables are included depending on the device. The receiver features an OLED screen for audio and charge level display, with gyro sensors for automatic screen orientation adjustment.

Attach the wireless microphones to the included charging bar, and they become easier to use as handheld mics or on a desk.

While wireless mic systems like this offer convenience and portability, using a small clip-on mic for impromptu interviews can be challenging. Sennheiser’s solution is to attach a microphone to the charging bar and add a foam windscreen for easier handling, allowing for use as a handheld mic or on a desk with additional support.

This creates a larger microphone that is easier to handle and provides more flexibility in usage. Despite its unconventional shape, it adds functionality to an already feature-rich and affordable microphone kit.
