Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, contended on Sunday that Vice President Harris cannot be relied upon to negotiate on the global stage if she avoids interactions with the friendly American media.
Speaking at a rally in Sanford, North Carolina, Vance shared with the audience in the crucial battleground state his discussions with his running mate, former President Trump, following the second attempted assassination in West Palm Beach, Florida. An armed assailant was caught lying in wait near Trump’s golf course with a rifle before being stopped by a Secret Service agent, preventing any potential harm.
These events occurred shortly after Trump survived a gunshot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“After the second assassination attempt, the president reached out to me and informed me about what had just transpired. And, my first reaction was, ‘oh, my God, sir, are you alright? Obviously, you’re physically safe. But, you know, that’s a traumatic experience,” Vance shared with the crowd. “A second assassination attempt within a few months. And he responded, ‘yeah, I’m fine. I’m a little annoyed, though, because I was about to make a birdie on the sixth hole and the Secret Service interrupted me.'”

“It struck me at that moment that this is the kind of person you want leading the nation when things go awry because you never truly know how someone will react in a moment of crisis until you witness their response,” Vance added.
Vance juxtaposed this conversation with Trump against Harris, highlighting how Harris avoids interacting with the American media.
“Can we have confidence in someone who shrinks from engagements with Vladimir Putin, the leader of Russia, or Xi Jinping, the leader of China, simply because they avoid encounters with the friendly American media?” Vance questioned. “If she can’t even communicate with the American press, she certainly can’t be entrusted to represent us on the global stage.”
“But you know who I do trust?” he continued. “The individual who faced a second assassination attempt with humor, kept their composure, and resumed work the next day.”
When Harris does participate in interviews, Vance noted that the Democratic nominee inadvertently benefits the Trump campaign.
“It’s amusing to see Kamala Harris in these interviews,” Vance remarked. “On one hand, I obviously disagree with her on numerous issues. I criticize her consistently during the campaign. I criticize her impact on the United States. But then, she gives an interview, and I believe she garners us about 100,000 votes. So, you know, Kamala Harris isn’t entirely detrimental.”

Vance referenced Harris’ appearance on “The View” where she was asked what she would have altered in the past four years of President Biden’s administration, and her response was “nothing comes to mind.” The Republican vice presidential candidate deemed Harris’ interview as a “gift.”
“Despite her pledges to effect change over the next four years, she grants us the gift of these interviews,” Vance continued. “While they may be softballs, and though our media colleagues rarely challenge Kamala Harris, sometimes, not always, she fumbles. The quintessential Kamala Harris gaffe is when she inadvertently reveals the truth because occasionally that happens.”
“How can someone who admits to making no alterations over the past four years solve the issues stemming from that policymaking?” Vance pondered. “For the residents of North Carolina, the decision is clear. It’s a choice between the status quo—higher grocery prices, unaffordable housing, open borders, and more fentanyl in our communities—or steering the country in a new direction. Do we reclaim peace, prosperity, and the leadership of Donald J. Trump?”

“Ask Kamala Harris, day one was 1,400 days ago,” he emphasized. “What have you been doing over the past four years? Stop talking about your duties and actually fulfill them.”
