Oregon claimed the top spot in The Associated Press college football poll on Sunday, solidifying its position for the College Football Playoff selection committee’s first rankings.
For the third consecutive week, the Ducks stand at No. 1 in the AP Top 25, unanimously so after a 21-point victory over Michigan on the road.
Georgia retained its No. 2 ranking despite a tough game against Florida and remains a strong contender.
Ohio State climbed to No. 3 after a win against Penn State, while Miami (Fla.) and Texas followed closely at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Penn State dropped to No. 6 after their recent game.
The expansion of the CFP to 12 teams has opened up possibilities for top teams to recover from losses and stay in the championship race. The committee’s first rankings will be released soon.
Tennessee stayed at No. 7 after a challenging win against Kentucky.
Indiana surged to No. 8, their highest ranking in a non-pandemic season since 2020 with an impressive win over Michigan State.
No. 9 BYU and No. 10 Notre Dame had a rest week.
