Australia vs Pakistan: First ODI thriller as Captain Cummins leads hosts to victory

Cummins’s all-round performance took Australia to a two-wicket win in Melbourne for a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Australia’s captain Pat Cummins has led his team to a thrilling two-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first one-day international (ODI) in Melbourne.

Cummins contributed with 32 runs and two wickets as Australia successfully chased down 204 runs, despite a late resurgence from Pakistan, to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Pakistan was bowled out for 203 in 46.4 overs after being asked to bat first, struggling against the Australian pace attack on a lively pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

After a solid start, Australia found themselves in a bit of trouble at 113-2, but Cummins stayed composed and guided them to victory along with Mitchell Starc.

Cummins, known for his ability to rescue Australia from difficult situations, played a pivotal role with the bat once again, showcasing his calmness under pressure.

Despite a brief scare, Australia managed to seal the win in front of a crowd of 25,800 at the MCG.

Starc was named man of the match for his crucial three-wicket haul, including the key openers of Pakistan.

In their first ODI since missing the World Cup semifinals, Pakistan had key contributions from Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and debutant Irfan Khan, but it was not enough to halt Australia’s charge to victory.
