No more daily word games, Netflix – thanks!

Netflix has introduced a new word puzzle game to its gaming library, which bears a striking resemblance to many other existing mobile games.

Announced in October, the streaming service collaborated with TED to launch TED Tumblewords, a daily word puzzle game. Players in this game slide rows of scrambled letters on a three-by-three grid to form words, earn points, and create the longest words possible.

Inspired by popular mobile games like Word Cookies, Words With Friends, and Wordle, Tumblewords joins Netflix’s existing word game, Word Trails. While not groundbreaking, Tumblewords could be a fun option for those seeking entertainment during morning commutes.

Netflix’s new game offers three modes centered on forming words using nine letters on a board that can be moved vertically or horizontally. Similar to Scrabble, each letter tile has a different point value, and players can earn bonus points for specific letter selections. Players are limited to six board shuffles.

The game includes “Daily Six,” “Daily Ladder,” and “Daily Match” modes, allowing players to challenge themselves or compete against friends and strangers online. Additionally, Tumblewords features a streak feature akin to Wordle, encouraging daily participation and social sharing of results.

What sets Tumblewords apart is TED’s incorporation of collectible “Knowledge Cards,” each containing interesting facts spanning various topics. Completing card collections unlocks badges for players.

TED Tumblewords is now available for download on iOS and Android devices. A Netflix subscription is required for mobile play, but the game can also be enjoyed for free on TED.com/games.

Aside from TED Tumblewords, Netflix has several upcoming games in the pipeline, including Netflix Stories: Outer Banks, The Ultimatum: Choices, and Monument Valley 3, along with a Squid Game-inspired title currently in development.
