Earlier this week, the college football world was shaken by significant recruiting news. It was revealed that Bryce Underwood, a highly ranked quarterback recruit, had changed his commitment from LSU to Michigan.
If Underwood eventually chooses to attend Michigan, it will be a major win for the Wolverines and their first-year head coach Sherrone Moore. The team has struggled this season, in part due to inconsistent quarterback performance. Keeping Underwood close to home would also be a significant victory.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 205 pounds, Underwood hails from Belleville High School, just 15 miles east of Ann Arbor. He had informed LSU of his intentions almost a year ago.
Despite rumors of Michigan’s interest in him intensifying, Underwood seemed committed to LSU. He and his family even sported LSU jewelry during a recent game in Baton Rouge.
However, recent developments led to a change in his decision, as FOX Sports college football insider Bruce Feldman elaborated on during the “Big Noon Kickoff” show.
Michigan secures 5-star QB Bryce Underwood with the help of Tom Brady to switch commitment from LSU
“[Underwood] had been committed to LSU for almost a year,” Feldman said. “The move sent shockwaves around the college football recruiting world.”
Underwood’s allegiance to Michigan, coupled with former coach Jim Harbaugh’s lesser pursuit, paved the way for Michigan’s resurgence in his recruitment.
Two key factors played a role in Michigan’s success. First, the head coach prioritized Underwood and received assistance from a crucial staff member.
“After Harbaugh’s departure, Michigan’s Associate Athletic Director for Football, Sean Magee, returned and played a significant role in repairing the relationship with Underwood. He, along with Sherrone Moore, made him a priority,” Feldman explained.
The second factor involved leveraging the influence of Michigan alum, Tom Brady, through numerous Zoom calls, ultimately swaying Underwood’s decision.
Feldman highlighted that Underwood’s commitment could spark recruiting momentum for Michigan, currently holding a 5-5 record.
“With Underwood on board, expect more top recruits to shift towards Ann Arbor and join the Wolverines,” Feldman predicted.
Michigan’s 2025 class currently ranks 9th nationally and 3rd in the Big Ten, according to the 247 composite score.
