A renowned Chinese mobile tech company specializing in rugged devices has introduced the world’s first 5G rugged tablet with a built-in DLP projector. The Tank Pad also includes an 800-lumen light for illuminating outdoor adventures.
8849, based in Shenzhen, has previously launched smartphones with integrated pico projectors under the Tank brand since embarking on its rugged journey in 2012. All their devices are designed to endure harsh conditions and come with large batteries for extended use. Now, a tablet has joined their lineup of durable products.
The Tank Pad meets rigorous MIL-STD-810H durability standards and carries IP68 and IP69K ratings for resistance against moisture and dust. Its projector is situated at one corner of the tablet and delivers a modest 100 lumens, which may not be suitable in bright light but serves as an alternative for sharing content without crowding around the 10-inch FHD+ 120-Hz display.
The tablet boasts a 21,000-mAh battery for uninterrupted functionality and supports reverse charging to top up other devices on the go. Powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8200 octa-core processor with integrated graphics, 16 GB of RAM (plus 15 GB virtual RAM), and 512 GB of storage, the Tank Pad provides ample performance. Additional storage can be added via TF-card expansion, and it includes dual nanoSIM slots.
Running on Android 14, the tablet features a 50-MP rear camera and a 32-MP selfie camera for photography and video calls. A rear camping light adds convenience for nighttime activities and extra illumination when needed.
The Tank Pad includes a 3.5-mm headphone jack and stereo speakers for rich sound quality. It supports NFC for contactless payments and features an infrared remote control for home appliances. The tablet is priced at US$999 on the company’s website but can be purchased for around $500 on AliExpress.
