F1 News: Qatar GP Officials Conduct ‘Productive’ Meeting with Drivers, FIA, and Stewards to Address Racing Rule Concerns Following Verstappen and Norris Incident
The Formula 1 drivers, the FIA, and the stewards convened for a “productive” meeting ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix to discuss overtaking rules in the sport.
This meeting follows controversial incidents involving Max Verstappen and Lando Norris during the United States and Mexico City Grand Prix a month ago.
Norris was penalized in Austin for overtaking Verstappen off the track, while in Mexico, Verstappen received penalties for wheel-to-wheel combat with Norris.
Verstappen, who secured his fourth consecutive F1 title in Las Vegas, emphasized that he races within the regulations.
George Russell, a director at the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, emphasized the need for more consistency in the sport and clearer rules moving forward.
Hamilton ‘welcomes’ more conversations in the future
Lewis Hamilton, after facing Verstappen in the contentious 2021 season, believes that F1 is now heading in the right direction post the meeting with stewards.
Hamilton acknowledged the stewards’ efforts to improve consistency this year but stressed the importance of ongoing discussions for establishing clear guidelines.
