President-elect Trump’s announcement of Kash Patel as the nominee for FBI director sparked strong reactions from both supporters and critics on Saturday night.
Patel’s selection suggests significant changes at the agency under the second Trump administration. As a vocal Trump supporter, Patel has been a fierce critic of government corruption and the “deep state,” often criticizing the bureau in the past.
In an interview in September on “The Shawn Ryan Show,” Patel expressed his belief that the FBI’s influence had become too extensive.
“I would close down the FBI Hoover Building on the first day and reopen it the next day as a museum of the Deep State,” Patel remarked.

Trump has been critical of the FBI in the past, particularly after his Florida estate was raided in 2022 and during investigations related to false allegations of Russian collusion. Many anticipate Trump will push for significant changes under his chosen director.
“Kash is a skilled lawyer, investigator, and advocate for ‘America First’ who has dedicated his career to uncovering corruption, upholding justice, and safeguarding the American people,” Trump said in a statement. “He played a crucial role in uncovering the Russia investigation hoax, standing as a champion for truth, accountability, and the Constitution.”
Republicans were quick to praise Patel’s nomination. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, referred to Patel as an “America First warrior.” Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., also voiced support for the selection.
“Fantastic pick by @realDonaldTrump,” exclaimed Donalds on X. “Kash is a patriot and fully committed to America First.”
