Have you ever imagined turning a PSP with a broken screen into a mini PS2, connecting a Bluetooth controller to it, and playing PSP games on your television? That’s exactly what Retro Mod Works’ PS Placeable does. This mod “consolizes” the PSP and was recently featured in a video from Macho Nacho Productions’ YouTube channel.
For a prebuilt PS Placeable, Retro Mod Works charges $274.99. However, there is currently a waitlist in place. The website mentions that due to high demand, they are struggling to keep up and fulfill orders promptly.
Retro Mod Works also offers to modify PSPs provided by customers for $100 less than the price of a prebuilt console. There is even an option to preorder DIY parts for those who prefer to tackle the conversion themselves. It’s important to note that the mod is only compatible with PSP-2000 or PSP-3000 models, as the original PSP lacked video output capability. The expected shipping date for the DIY parts is not specified at the moment.
The mastermind behind this project, known as Dan, expressed his dislike for purchasing digital copies of games he already owned physically. He aimed to integrate Bluetooth controller support while retaining the UMD drive. In his comments on Reddit, he emphasized his desire to help revive faulty PSPs using this mod, obviating the need for the console’s original screen.
Though obtaining one of these mod kits may be expensive or require technical expertise that many lack, another alternative for playing PSP games on your TV is the PSP Go. This version, which doesn’t feature Sony’s unique optical drive but supports Bluetooth controllers and offers video output, is still readily available.
