The most recent super short throw projectors from Epson provide optimal viewing even in well-lit environments

Epson has introduced a super-short-throw projector to its lineup of home cinema options. Similar to its ultra-short-throw counterparts, the EH-QS100 model sits close to the screen to display large visuals with the help of its laser light source, making it suitable for viewing in well-lit environments.

The EH-QS100 is available in two models, distinguished only by the color of the housing – black or white.

Epson utilizes pixel-shifting technology to achieve 4K Pro UHD image resolution, delivering 4.14 million onscreen pixels instead of the official 8.3 million of the 4K UHD standard. While it offers a better viewing experience than a 1080p projector, it falls short of true UHD quality. Nonetheless, the company promises “crystal-clear visuals with enhanced sharpness and fluidity.”

Though built for home cinema, the EH-QS100 super-short-throw laser projectors may well find use as a TV replacement in hotel rooms

The EH-QS100 has a throw ratio of 0.16:1 and can display visuals of up to 160 diagonal inches through Epson’s F1.8 glass.

The 3LCD laser engine offers 4,500 lumens of brightness, making it suitable for both well-lit rooms and dark home theaters. It also features 10-bit color, HDR10+ and HLG support, and Dynamic Tone Mapping for adjusting HDR scenes.

The native contrast ratio is 1,800:1, but dynamic contrast exceeds 5-million:1 for enhanced dark and shadow details. Epson includes various image enhancement technologies like 4K frame interpolation and super resolution.

This projector is not smart-enabled, requiring a wired connection to media sources via its three HDMI ports. It also offers Ethernet LAN, USB connectivity, IP control through a web browser, and integration with smart home systems.

“These latest Q Series projectors highlight our commitment to the home entertainment market,” said Ben White from Epson. “As the demand for larger screens grows, these projectors offer a cost-effective alternative to flat panel displays, delivering high-quality, vivid images in bright living spaces or media rooms.”

Pricing details have not been disclosed by Epson Europe yet, but the EH-QS100 models will be available in black or white from January 1, 2025, through specialist home cinema and Pro AV resellers and integrators. Availability in other regions is yet to be announced.
