If you’re in the market for a new living room TV that doesn’t take up too much space when not in use, Formovie is offering its flagship Theater Premium ultra-short-throw projector as a potential solution. We had the opportunity to test it out.
The Theater Premium follows the T1 model and was released globally as the Theater in 2022. Despite retaining the same price and appearance, there are several upgrades to note. These include increased brightness, upgraded premium sound, and a switch from Android TV to Google TV, which includes built-in Netflix support.
The collaboration behind Formovie involves Xiaomi and Appotronics, with the latter specializing in Advanced Laser Phosphor Display (ALDP) technology used in movie theaters and consumer projectors.
The Theater Premium incorporates an upgraded version of ALDP 4.0, featuring a blue laser/phosphor alongside a triple-laser (RGB) light source for cinema-grade visuals. The technology reduces image speckling, a common issue with UST laser projectors. The model also offers six picture presets and customization options for power users.
Key specifications of the Theater Premium include a 0.47-inch DMD chip, Xpanded Pixel Resolution shifting for 4K UHD resolution, and a 0.21:1 throw ratio. It boasts a contrast ratio of 3,000:1, 107% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut, Dolby Vision support, and HDR10+ decoding.
