Following Israeli air strikes on Sanaa and Hodeidah earlier this week, the latest tit-for-tat attack occurred with Houthis claiming responsibility for a missile that fell in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, killing nine people.
The Israeli military failed to intercept the missile from Yemen launched by Houthi rebels, which landed in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area.
After sirens alarms in central Israel, the military reported the incident on its Telegram channel, stating that attempts to intercept the projectile were unsuccessful.
A spokesperson for the Houthis confirmed hitting a military target in the Jaffa area with a ballistic missile.
Israel’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom (MDA), reported that 16 people sustained minor injuries from shattered glass windows in nearby buildings.
The Houthi attack on Israel was a response to Israeli air strikes in Sanaa and Hodeidah, which resulted in at least nine casualties.
Israeli attacks followed a previous missile launch from the Houthis towards Israel, which was intercepted.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attempted attack on Thursday, firing ballistic missiles at specific military targets in the occupied Yaffa area.
Aggression on Gaza
Since Israel’s assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, in response to a Hamas-led attack, Houthi fighters in Yemen have targeted Israel and related ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The Houthis cite solidarity with Palestinians amid the conflict in Gaza, where more than 45,000 people, predominantly children and women, have been killed by Israel.
The group has vowed to continue their operations until the aggression on Gaza ceases and the siege is lifted.
In a separate incident on December 9, a drone claimed by the Houthis exploded in a residential building in Yavne, causing no casualties.
Earlier in July, a Houthi drone attack in Tel Aviv resulted in the death of an Israeli civilian, leading to strikes on Hodeidah in Yemen.
Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden have prompted responses from the United States and occasionally the United Kingdom with strikes on Houthi targets.
