Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid received two technical fouls and was ejected in the first half of Monday night’s game against San Antonio.
Referee Jenna Schroeder ejected Embiid with 2:59 left in the second quarter. Embiid got the first technical for arguing with Schroeder and the second technical, leading to his ejection, shortly after. It’s unclear from replays if he made contact with the referee.
After being ejected, an angry Embiid had to be restrained by teammates and coaches as he charged toward the officials.
It has been a challenging season for Embiid, who has faced injuries, suspensions, and setbacks. Monday’s game was just the fifth time he, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey were in the starting lineup together.
Wearing a mask due to a sinus fracture, Embiid struggled with his shooting but maintained his aggressiveness against Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.
In a previous matchup with Wembanyama, Embiid had a record-breaking game, but this time his performance was cut short by the ejection.
Despite the challenges, Embiid remains a key player for the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging impressive statistics in the games he’s played.
