Many Republican rebels push back against Donald Trump’s controversial proposals to buy Greenland and take back the Panama Canal.

Donald Trump believes it is a crucial necessity for our country to possess Greenland.

He also insists that the U.S. should reclaim the Panama Canal unless the exorbitant shipping fees are reduced.

Trump has issued a warning that any Republican who goes against him on the bill to prevent a government shutdown should and will face primary challenges.

The president-elect is solidifying his reputation as a disruptor, exerting enough influence within his party to disrupt carefully negotiated bipartisan deals. Let’s delve into each of these situations.

HOW PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP MIGHT ACHIEVE ‘THE DEAL OF THE CENTURY’ AS HE TAKES OFFICE

In his first term, Trump attempted to purchase Greenland, which is currently under the control of Denmark but maintains home rule. This endeavor led to a diplomatic crisis with Danish authorities.

Despite the fact that the U.S. constructed the Panama Canal in the early 20th century, it was transferred to Panama under a treaty endorsed by both nations. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino firmly asserts that the canal and its surrounding area belong to Panama and will continue to do so. He emphasizes that Panama’s sovereignty and independence are non-negotiable.

However, Trump proceeded to share an AI-generated image of an American flag flying over a waterway believed to be the canal.

The incoming president has indeed showcased his ability to incite primary challenges against those who oppose him. Yet, around three dozen conservative Republicans dissented on the government shutdown bill, even during the final vote that excluded Trump’s demand to eliminate the debt ceiling during his term. Would he truly initiate primary challenges against all of them?

Consequently, it is highly likely that there will be no significant changes regarding the status of Greenland, the Panama Canal, and rebellious Republicans in the second term.

Trump engages in such actions to reinforce his image as a disruptor, someone who takes on the entrenched Washington establishment, despite being the new establishment as president.
