Fans eagerly anticipating the continuation of Matt Reeves’ story in The Batman sequel will need to wait a bit longer. Originally scheduled for October 2nd, 2026, the release of The Batman Part II has been postponed to October 1st, 2027, following initial delays due to the Hollywood writers’ strike. Warner Bros. made the announcement, as reported by Variety.
This delay seems to have a strategic purpose, according to Variety, as Warner Bros. has quickly filled the previously set October 2nd, 2026, slot with an undisclosed film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
Despite the disappointment for Batman fans, there is some good news. Bong Joon-Ho’s Mickey 17 is now set to release earlier than expected on March 7th, 2025, after facing its own delays from the original 2024 release date. The film, inspired by the Edward Ashton novel Mickey7, features Robert Pattinson (who also stars as Bruce Wayne in The Batman Part II) alongside actors like Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Thomas Turgoose. Warner Bros. reportedly switched release dates with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, now slated for April 18th, to give Mickey 17 more time in Imax theaters.
