Craig Rothfeld, prison consultant for Harvey Weinstein, hired by Luigi Mangione

Luigi Mangione, the Maryland Ivy Leaguer accused of assassinating the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, has hired the same New York prison consultant as disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

Craig Rothfeld, a former finance professional turned consultant to white-collar defendants after serving time for investment and tax fraud, has in-depth knowledge of the NYC Department of Correction and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, as stated on his website bio.

In December 2015, Rothfeld and his business partners were found guilty of defrauding $11 million from 15 investors by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Rothfeld faced accusations of falsifying business records and received a sentence of 1 ½ to 4 ½ years in prison.

Rothfeld’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment, but his firm, Inside Outside Ltd, shared a New York Post article about his hiring on its website.

In addition to assisting defendants from indictment to sentencing, Inside Outside also collaborates with their defense attorneys on specific court filings and support letters.

Mangione is accused of organizing a cross-country trip that involved the assassination-style shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Dec. 4 just outside the hotel scheduled to host his company’s investor conference that morning.

Thompson, who hailed from Minnesota, had traveled to NYC for the event.

Mangione then allegedly fled the city and led authorities on a five-day interstate manhunt, culminating in his arrest at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after being recognized from a wanted poster by workers and customers.

Police discovered him with the alleged murder weapon, including a 3D-printed receiver and suppressor, along with a fraudulent ID he purportedly used to check into a Manhattan hostel before the shooting.

Mangione is facing multiple charges, like first-degree murder in connection with terrorism at the state level and stalking murder in federal court. He is also charged with carrying a forged ID and illegal possession of a firearm in both New York and Pennsylvania.

He is currently held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
