According to Bloomberg, Amazon is following in the footsteps of Meta by scaling back some of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. Meta had announced earlier that it was ending its diversity efforts.
In an internal memo sent to employees, the company stated its intention to phase out outdated programs and materials as part of a review of its current initiatives.
Candi Castleberry, a senior human resources executive, wrote in the memo that Amazon is shifting towards programs with proven success and striving to create a more inclusive culture overall.
Amazon is now part of a trend among companies like Meta and Microsoft that are rolling back previous commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Information reported on Friday that Amazon made changes to its corporate website to reduce the emphasis on DEI and removed a post from 2021 that focused on DEI.
This shift in approach comes as tech companies and their leaders brace for a new presidential administration that is expected to be unfriendly towards DEI efforts, as reported by Bloomberg.
