Female basketball players denounce rival team with transgender player for ‘verbal abuse’ and ‘encouraging aggression’

Female basketball players at Columbia Bible College (CBC) in British Columbia, Canada, have written a letter in response to an opposing team that is refusing to play games against CBC due to alleged mistreatment of a transgender player.

Vancouver Island University (VIU) announced that they will not be playing their scheduled games against CBC this weekend after an incident during their last encounter in October. VIU claims that a CBC coach violated the Coach’s Code of Ethics in their treatment of the transgender athlete. VIU has requested the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) not penalize their team for this decision.

The transgender player from VIU, Harriette Mackenzie, has accused CBC coaches and players of abusive behavior.

The letter from the CBC players, obtained by Fox News Digital, criticizes VIU’s team for making “personal attacks,” “defamatory comments,” and even inciting violence against their coach.

The letter highlights violations of the rules stated in Article 17.2 and emphasizes that any allegations should have been communicated privately to PACWEST officials, not publicly on social media.

The letter goes on to address the misinformation spread by VIU players and expresses disappointment in how the situation has been handled.

Mackenzie’s allegations include incidents where she was mistreated by a Columbia Bible player and coach.

Despite the controversy, Mackenzie has excelled in the league, ranking high in scoring, rebounds, and shooting percentage.

The CBC players’ letter also accuses VIU of not following standard procedure for canceling games and questions the decision-making process of the PACWEST.

As a response, the CBC players have decided to break their silence and speak out against VIU’s actions.

In Canada, laws protect the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports, while the U.S. has seen political debates surrounding transgender participation in sports.
