Israel intensifies bombing of Gaza as efforts for renewed ceasefire negotiations gain momentum | Gaza News

Reports indicate that a school sheltering displaced Palestinians in northern Gaza was targeted in an Israeli attack, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals, including women and children. The attack took place at the Zainab al-Wazir school in Jabalia al-Balad, with survivors recounting the devastation caused by the missiles.

The aftermath of the attack led to scenes of chaos at al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, where many of the wounded were taken. Medical supplies were reported to be scarce due to the ongoing siege of northern Gaza by Israel.

Further strikes on various locations in Gaza resulted in additional casualties, including an attack on a house in Gaza City and a bombing of a tent sheltering displaced families in Deir el-Balah.

The escalating violence coincided with renewed efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to broker a ceasefire and secure the release of Israeli captives held by Palestinians.

‘Tough sticking points’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US envoy Steve Witkoff to discuss ceasefire negotiations, with Israeli officials traveling to Qatar to advance talks. However, significant barriers remain on both sides, with Hamas calling for a comprehensive ceasefire and Israeli public sentiments divided on the government’s handling of the conflict.

‘Impossible to stay alive’

As talks continue, Palestinians in Gaza face not only airstrikes but also severe food shortages due to Israeli restrictions on supplies entering the region. The dire situation has led to widespread malnutrition and challenges in accessing basic necessities.

Criticism of Israel’s actions has intensified, with accusations of genocide being leveled by human rights advocates. The escalating violence has resulted in a significant loss of life, with many civilians caught in the crossfire.
