Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen is requesting a pardon from President Biden, similar to the one he granted his son Hunter, before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
Cohen discussed his attempts to seek a pardon from the Biden administration on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” on Saturday morning. He argued that not receiving a presidential pardon would continue to put him “at risk” of prosecution by Trump.
Cohen emphasized that Biden has a duty to protect him and other critics of Trump, just like he protected his son Hunter.
“Yes, I have applied for a presidential pardon because I believe that Joe Biden owes me the same duty he owed his own son,” Cohen stated. “And I expect the same exact pardon he gave his son to be extended to me and anyone else on that enemies list, whether they agree or not, because I assure you, solitary confinement, where I spent 51 days, is awful.”

MSNBC host Symone Sanders shared Cohen’s concerns about being on Trump’s “enemies list” but did not support the mention of Hunter Biden in his case.
“I mean, Hunter Biden is the president’s last surviving son,” Sanders remarked.
“I’m also someone’s son, by the way,” Cohen replied.
“Agreed. You are someone’s son,” Sanders acknowledged. “But I want to be clear, you’re not the president’s son. And he primarily pardoned Hunter because he is his son, in my opinion.”
Cohen stressed the importance of taking Trump’s threats seriously.
“You have to take Donald Trump at his word when he makes promises,” Cohen warned. “So far, he has been following through on what he intends to do. Although it may not all happen on day one, as he claimed, he will have four years or more to work with a new group of appointees in government to help achieve his objectives.”
Cohen served three years in jail for federal offenses, including tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and perjury while working for Trump. He has since turned into a vocal opponent of the president-elect and testified against Trump in a New York criminal case earlier this year led by Alvin Bragg.
In September, Cohen expressed his intention to leave the country if Trump were re-elected.

“I am already making arrangements for a foreign passport under a completely different name. I am unsure how this will affect my family, and they may not join me wherever I plan to go,” Cohen revealed.
Biden faced criticism from both sides for pardoning his son Hunter in December, despite his prior assurances. As his term comes to an end, Biden has mentioned considering preemptive pardons for some of Trump’s adversaries, such as former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
