Estonian daredevil Jaan Roose showcases his latest death-defying stunt in Dubai: a 330-ft walk between two skyscrapers with a 700-ft drop below.
Similar to tightrope walking, Slacklining involves individuals crossing a flat band suspended between two points. Roose, a prominent figure in the scene, has won the Slackline World Championship three times and has performed stunts in movies like Assassin’s Creed and Wonder Woman 1984.
The Emirates Towers, designed by Hazel Wong and completed in 1999, stand at heights of 355 m (1,164 ft) and 309 m (1,013 ft) respectively. They are situated near the Museum of the Future, with one tower as an office building and the other as a hotel.
This particular stunt posed challenges as the slackline had to be anchored at different points on each tower, requiring Roose to navigate slopes as he crossed back and forth. The 100 m (328 ft) line was suspended 224 m (374 ft) above Dubai’s streets.
“The technical setup itself was quite challenging as the Emirates Towers differ in height despite their similar design. Finding the right anchor points for the highlines was a hurdle,” shared Roose. “One side had a higher anchor, resulting in an uphill walk and then back downhill.”
This stunt was part of the Red Bull event for the United Arab Emirates’ 1 Billion Followers media summit on January 11. Roose has tackled various similar challenges, including walking between the Katara Towers and an unsuccessful attempt to cross from mainland Italy to Sicily.
