Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has been removed from the powerful House Rules Committee following his lone Republican vote against Speaker Mike Johnson in the House leadership election.
The Rules Committee holds authority over which bills are brought to the House floor for a vote. Massie, known for his strict libertarian views, had previously stated he would voluntarily step down from the panel after opposing Johnson for speaker due to Johnson’s reliance on Democratic support for passing significant spending bills.
Massie’s unwavering stances have often set him apart from the rest of the GOP conference. According to a Republican lawmaker who spoke to Fox News Digital, “98% of the conference wanted Massie removed from the rules committee.”

Requests for comment from Massie’s office remain unanswered.
The House Republican conference recently voted for a new committee roster during a closed-door meeting. Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has taken over Massie’s position on the Rules Committee.
