Liverpool draws against Forest as Man City falters after squandering two-goal lead | Football News

Premier League leaders Liverpool come back to draw at Nottingham Forest but Man City let lead slip at Brentford.

Nottingham Forest showcased their unexpected Premier League title aspirations by holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw, adding to their previous victory over the leaders this season.

A header by Diogo Jota from a corner in the 66th minute secured a point for Liverpool, maintaining their six-point lead over Forest, who climbed to second place in their surprising quest for a Champions League qualification.

Only Forest has managed to defeat Liverpool in the league this season, with their win at Anfield in September. They were on track for an unlikely home-and-away double over Arne Slot’s team after top scorer Chris Wood found the net in the eighth minute.

Despite intense pressure from Liverpool in the later stages, they could not break down Forest, a team that began the season expected to struggle near the relegation zone rather than challenging for the title.

More woes for Premier League champions Man City

Manchester City once again showed vulnerability late in the game as they surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Brentford.

City conceded in the 82nd minute and then again two minutes into stoppage time despite Phil Foden scoring twice for the struggling champions, who are fighting for a spot in the Champions League this season.

Prior to their recent wins against Leicester and West Ham, City had only won one out of nine matches, dropping out of the Champions League qualification spots. During this poor run, City also suffered defeats like conceding late goals to Manchester United and squandering a three-goal lead in a 3-3 draw against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Yoane Wissa and Christian Norgaard were the goal scorers for Brentford, leaving City in sixth place.

Chelsea scramble for home draw with Bournemouth

Chelsea managed to salvage a 2-2 draw at home against Bournemouth thanks to Reece James’s free kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time but extended their winless streak in the league to five games.

Cole Palmer put Chelsea in the lead with a clever finish in the 13th minute for his 14th goal of the season, only for Bournemouth to respond with Antoine Semenyo winning a penalty — converted by Justin Kluivert — and scoring a rising finish in the 68th.

Chelsea remained in fourth place, at least until fifth-place Newcastle played on Wednesday. Graham Potter secured his first win as West Ham manager as his new team defeated Fulham 3-2.

Carlos Soler and Tomas Soucek scored goals in the first half before Lucas Paqueta sealed the win for West Ham, who appointed Potter last week in place of the sacked Julen Lopetegui.

Potter’s first match in charge resulted in a loss to Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday. Alex Iwobi scored Fulham’s goals to bring the score to 2-1 and then 3-2. With the victory, West Ham opened up a 10-point gap above the relegation zone.
