Sean McVay says Rams’ Tyler Higbee was spitting up blood after playoff game injury

Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee faced a serious situation when he had to exit Monday night’s playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings at the end of the first quarter.

Rams head coach Sean McVay informed reporters on Tuesday that Higbee was hospitalized due to a chest injury after “spitting up a little bit of blood,” according to the team’s site.

McVay expressed optimism that Higbee would be ready for the Rams’ divisional round match against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“He expects to be ready, but I have not received any updates from (VP of medicine Reggie Scott) yet. … You could tell he was making an impact early. He was on track to have a big night, and even in just one quarter, he made a significant contribution,” he said, according to The Orange County Register.

Higbee played only three games in the regular season as he recovered from knee surgery in the offseason. He made his season debut against the New York Jets, scoring a touchdown in the 19-9 victory.

Even though he exited early, he led the team on Monday night with five catches for 58 yards.
