Authorities are looking for a man accused of stabbing an off-duty Atlanta police officer after a hit-and-run incident over the weekend.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Saturday in DeKalb County, Georgia, following a hit-and-run on Interstate 20 Eastbound near Panola Road.
According to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office via FOX 5 Atlanta, a driver in a Dodge Charger hit a Chevy Silverado before fleeing the scene.
The driver of the Silverado, later identified as an off-duty Atlanta police officer, followed the Charger driver into Rockdale County to get their license plate information.

The two drivers ended up in a parking lot, where they had a verbal dispute that turned physical. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Justin Perry Hurst, reportedly stabbed the officer several times.
Hurst fled the scene and is currently at large.
His last known vehicle was a white 2019 VW Passat with Georgia tag CWC3082. He is considered dangerous and is associated with the Alpharetta area.

The officer was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment, where he was conscious and breathing. He has since been discharged.

“While the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is the lead in this investigation, the Atlanta Police Department stands in solidarity with them to ensure that the suspect is apprehended,” Atlanta police said in a statement. “We are asking anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to please contact CrimeStoppers or the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.”
