VP Vance urges US to improve aviation safety following tragic DC plane crash

Vice President JD Vance has urged the U.S. to enhance aviation safety measures and expressed condolences to the families affected by the recent midair collision near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

In an exclusive interview with Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Vance shared, “Our hearts go out to everybody who was affected by it. I’ve actually made a couple of phone calls to the relatives of the deceased… and it’s just incredibly heartbreaking.”

“You’ve got moms who are mothers to very young children. You’ve got a dad who had a one-year-old baby on the Army helicopter,” he continued. “We have to remember the human tragedy of this, because, when Americans have a tragedy, we can all come together — Democrat, Republican or Independent — and just say, ‘We love those folks. We’re going to do right by them in order to support them through what is the unspeakable tragedy of the last couple of days.'”

TRUMP ATTACKS DEI POLICIES AFTER DC PLANE CRASH, SAYS FAA EMPLOYEES MUST BE HELD TO ‘HIGHEST STANDARDS’

President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Cabinet Secretaries Pete Hegseth and Sean Duffy addressed the press about the tragic incident last week. They criticized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices attributed to the Biden administration.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Trump condemned Biden-era DEI policies for allegedly compromising aviation standards and advocated for a merit-based approach instead.

Vance echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of policies to ensure aviation safety. “Now, we haven’t had an aviation accident like this in about 15 or 20 years. We want to make sure that we try to never have an aviation accident like this again,” he said.

Vance pointed out the impact of previous administrations on the aviation industry, highlighting shortages of air traffic controllers. He mentioned lawsuits against the Obama and Biden administrations for alleged discrimination in air traffic controller hiring practices.

The Vice President expressed concerns about the quality of personnel in critical aviation roles under the Biden administration and stressed the importance of addressing chronic staffing shortages among air traffic controllers for enhanced safety measures.
