Apple Maps will soon change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, in line with U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order. Google has already made similar changes this week.
U.S.-based Apple users may start seeing the name “Gulf of America” as early as Tuesday, as reported by Bloomberg, with plans to introduce the name to users in other countries soon.
Google Maps users worldwide now see the name as “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America),” while Mexican and American users see their respective country names in the title.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has requested Google to reconsider the name change, but both Apple and Google appear to be complying with directives from the current U.S. President.
