WWE superstar Penta shares the origin of his ‘Cero Miedo’ catchphrase

Penta is currently one of the most popular WWE Superstars, showcasing his skills since his debut on January 13. His catchphrase, “Cero Miedo,” and accompanying hand gesture have resonated well with fans.

Having competed in various promotions like AAA, Lucha Underground, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Major League Wrestling, TNA Wrestling, and All Elite Wrestling, Penta joined WWE in late December.

The luchador’s first appearance was on the second episode of RAW, airing on Netflix, where he defeated Chad Gable in an impressive match. He later participated in the Royal Rumble, showcasing his endurance as the match’s Iron Man.

Aside from his mask, Penta’s “Cero Miedo” catchphrase is gaining popularity among the WWE Universe. But where did it originate? Penta shares his insight with Chris Van Vliet on the latest episode of Insight.

“In Mexico, there is a band called Los Buitres De Culiacan Sinaloa. Their songs often feature the phrase, ‘Cero Miedo mi Compa,’ which translates to ‘no fear my friend,’ or something of the sort. When I heard it, I thought, ‘I like it.’ During my first Triple A interview in Mexico, I needed to end my promo, and that’s when I said, ‘Cero Miedo!’ It felt right and became my go-to. After that, everyone started chanting ‘Cero Miedo!’ I enhanced the Cero Miedo with hand gestures, T-shirts, and more, but the true origin is from the Corridos in Mexico,” disclosed the luchador. The masked superstar has become a merchandise favorite for WWE fans, especially with items like masks and gloves. With WrestleMania 41 on the horizon, the wrestling community eagerly anticipates what’s next for the beloved luchador.

Penta Embraces ‘Cero Miedo’ as a Lifestyle

While “Cero Miedo” is a central aspect of Penta’s wrestling persona, it has transcended into a lifestyle for many of his supporters. Translated to “Zero Fear” in English, the catchphrase has inspired individuals, making it easier for the luchador to become a recognizable figure.

“Initially, Cero Miedo was confined to the Lucha move or gimmick. Now, it has evolved into a lifestyle. I’ve had numerous people share stories with me, saying, ‘Penta, thanks for embodying Cero Miedo. I conquered cancer because of it.’ … I’ve inspired many individuals. Cero Miedo has transitioned from a phrase to a lifestyle, starting with me and spreading to others,” expressed the 40-year-old star on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. [H/T chrisvanvliet.com]

Regarding his mask, the former AEW star revealed that it draws inspiration from his fascination with ninjas and dragons.
