Report: Fresno State basketball players implicated in betting on games they participated in

Fresno State men’s basketball is embroiled in a sports gambling scandal, with two of the three athletes involved allegedly betting on games they played in.

The Bulldogs removed forward Mykell Robinson from the team while suspending guards Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins for alleged sports betting.

Reports indicate that Robinson and Weaver placed bets on their team’s points and rebounds totals, violating NCAA rules against athletes, coaches, and staff engaging in sports betting activities.

The team’s head coach, Vance Walberg, informed the university about the players’ actions, prompting an internal and NCAA investigation.

Fresno State told ESPN that Weaver and Collins were “being withheld from competition as the University reviews an eligibility matter.”

The affected players, Weaver and Collins, are key scorers for the team this season, contributing significantly to Fresno State’s performance.

Roberston, another player involved, has been absent from the team since January 11.

The Athletics department has declined to provide further comments on the ongoing situation at this time.

The Bulldogs have been on a losing streak, setting a record for most losses in a single season with a 5-23 record.
