SpaceX is set to launch its latest Starship megarocket next week, in a test that will involve catching the world’s largest rocket booster with giant metal chopsticks. If you want to watch it live, details on when and how to see it are available.
The Starship Flight 8 test is scheduled to launch no earlier than Monday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m. EST (2330 GMT) from SpaceX’s Starbase facility near Boca Chica Beach in South Texas. This mission marks SpaceX’s eighth test flight of the giant rocket, following an anomaly that destroyed SpaceX’s Flight 7 Starship spacecraft in January.
You can watch the Starship Flight 8 launch live on Space.com, courtesy of SpaceX, in a livestream expected to begin about 40 minutes before liftoff. For more updates on the flight and precise timing information, stay tuned.
What time is SpaceX’s Starship Flight 8 launch?
SpaceX is targeting a 6:30 p.m. EST liftoff time on March 3 for the Starship Flight 8 launch. The launch window may be around 30 minutes, so the launch could happen anytime between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST (2330 to 0000 GMT).
Due to possible changes in the launch date, make sure to check back for updates. SpaceX already rescheduled the flight once after an initial launch target of Friday (Feb. 28) was moved three days later without a specific reason given.
SpaceX’s Starship launch system is the world’s tallest and most powerful rocket. Standing about 400 feet tall (122 meters), it consists of a giant Super Heavy booster with 33 Raptor engines and a Ship upper stage powered by six Raptor vacuum engines.
The most recent Starship launch was SpaceX’s Flight 7 test flight in January, where the Ship vehicle was lost due to a propellant leak. It crashed into the Atlantic Ocean over 8 minutes after launch.
