Advice for Trump on starting his 4-year term from political strategists

President Donald Trump is set to address a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, marking the beginning of his second term. His initial six weeks saw a flurry of executive actions, redefining international relations and government efficiency efforts. Political strategists shared with Fox News Digital their insights on what to expect from Trump’s upcoming speech.

Republican strategists advise Trump to highlight the achievements of his first six weeks and draw comparisons with the previous Biden administration. Meanwhile, Democrats are critical of what they see as Trump’s failure to lower prices.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., has been tasked with delivering the party’s rebuttal.

“Trump is expected to juxtapose himself with the previous administration, which was perceived as weak and directionless. No one knew who was in charge, and the Biden administration’s objectives were unclear. The transition from Biden to Trump is stark,” noted political columnist Kristin Tate.

Republicans emphasize that Trump should showcase the themes of his first six weeks and elaborate on how his executive actions align with his broader vision for the country.

“He needs to craft a narrative, weaving together his accomplishments over the last month into a cohesive story and theme,” suggested Republican strategist Matt Gorman. “It’s crucial for him to tie all these actions and progress into a larger narrative about their impact on Americans and his vision for the future.”

According to Republican strategists, Trump should emphasize how he has already delivered on key campaign promises, such as curbing illegal border crossings, reversing Biden’s green energy policies, streamlining the Justice Department, and working to eliminate DEI.

“He is likely to showcase and take credit for these achievements as promises made and kept. However, he should also outline his future direction, highlighting key legislative priorities and moving beyond mere executive orders,” remarked Republican strategist Colin Reed.

Reed suggested that Trump should address “the legislative priorities and go beyond just the executive orders.” In light of the recent diplomatic tensions resulting from Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Reed proposed that Trump could use his speech to reset the narrative.

“Amidst the foreign policy challenges of the past few days, Trump has an opportunity to refocus on his domestic agenda. While Friday’s events may cast a shadow, he can pivot to his vision for the country,” Reed stated. “Many issues he faces are residues of the Biden administration, and he wants to show that these challenges would not have occurred under his leadership.”
