Following a course correction, Disney & Pixar’s “Elio” is set to be the next potential blockbuster in the kid-centric sci-fi comedy genre. The movie is scheduled for release on June 20, 2025, and a new trailer has been released to get fans excited.
The plot of “Elio” revolves around an 11-year-old boy who is obsessed with aliens and dreams of going on intergalactic adventures. One day, he gets beamed up into the “Communiverse,” a vast interplanetary organization that includes representatives from all parts of the universe.
Elio is mistakenly identified as Earth’s official ambassador and finds himself in the middle of a political storm. He must form alliances with various alien species, both friends and foes, in order to save the galaxy and discover his true purpose.
Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi, along with Adrian Molina and produced by Mary Alice Drumm, have worked on “Elio” with talented voice actors including Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, Remy Edgerly, Jameela Jamil, Brad Garrett, and Shirley Henderson. The movie promises to be a fun and entertaining experience for audiences.
The trailer for “Elio” offers more hints and easter eggs for space enthusiasts to enjoy, such as a Voyager-like Golden Record and Elio’s Aunt Olga, who works for the Air Force Space Command. The movie’s setting in a universe where the U.S. Space Force exists raises questions about the timeline of the story.
“I just want to belong somewhere,” Elio says in the trailer. “So if any aliens are listening please come by and get me… okay, bye, I love you.”
As a unique animated adventure, “Elio” promises to be an exciting outer space coming-of-age story. The movie underwent significant changes to its tone and overall mood, resulting in a lighter and more fun experience for viewers.
