DCCEEW decision on Woodside’s NWS project delayed, Greenpeace Australia Pacific urges thorough assessment
Statement by Joe Rafalowicz, Head of Climate and Energy, Greenpeace Australia Pacific.
“Greenpeace Australia Pacific has called for a thorough assessment of Woodside’s NWS extension, including new evidence on Scott Reef’s impact, submitted to the department. This project’s scale and complexity make it a significant environmental decision with long-term implications.
“Woodside’s NWS extension is tied to the Browse project, involving drilling near Scott Reef, endangering species and corals. The project could result in substantial greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change and harming WA’s environment and communities.
“It is crucial to follow a rigorous assessment process for NWS and Woodside’s Burrup Hub, considering their potential for irreversible environmental damage.”
